Can we fix it?

Yes we can!

The capricious weather ushered us to United Square as early as 4pm to catch Bob the Builder Live … at 7pm!

yiHang had read about the activities from a brochure and he had the entire evening planned out. He queued for the Bob kiddy rides and was disappointed when he was turned away as he did not have a pass – which was only given to shoppers whom had spent at least $50 for the day. Then he wanted to join the Project Built It Adventure activity – and again, the fine prints said that you have to be the first 60 to present a ‘same day’ single receipt of at least $30 to get a pass! And if you want to meet Bob and take a photo with him, you have to be the first 30 shoppers to present a ‘same day’ single receipt of $30! And .. and ..I was told (not in the fine prints) that a single receipt of $30 can earn a pass to EITHER the Project Built It Adventure OR Bob meet-and-greet session. NOT both. And … and … and … one pass admits only one child!

So I have to spend at least $60 for just yiHang to get a kiddy ride, participate in Bob’s activity and attend the meet-and-greet session. Lots of co-ordination work involved. I have to find out from the information counter if the passes have been given out for the day before I proceed to do some Christmas shopping to choke up that amount. And this has to be timed properly because every minute, passes were given out!

I only managed to spend $30 before the Project Built It adventure activity began 5:30pm. Knowing that my baby, yiXiang would enjoy the sing-along session, I tried my luck to ‘smuggle’ him in. I was stopped at the entrance as I only had one pass and two kiddos. So, I did some reasoning (so much space left, only 25 passes were given out, he’s only a baby, I need to be with my older boy,  …) and got my way through!

Woo hoo!

Stressful. Luckily I had my sis and Lilik, to help out.

These photographs says it all. Since there were so few participants, Yihang managed to hug Bob and took a photo with him.

We grabbed a bite after the activity. The dancing, singing and building has worked by the kids’ appetite.

Since the Bob’s live show at 7pm is free, a bee line started as early as 6pm. Yihang could not concentrate on his dinner at all as he was worried he could not get a place for the show. So YiYi (姨姨) went to queue for him and let him finish his dinner with a peace of mind.

After dinner, Yihang, in the midst of all the excitement, broke lose – cut the queue, zoomed passed the attendants and ran into the atrium and sat himself right upfront!. We called after him to no avail! He made friends immediately and was all ready for the show! Though I had mommies coming to tell me how independent and sociable my boy was, he had an earful!

Our baby also enjoyed himself clapping to the music, dancing and walking around. His little feet were all red as his shoes were a little too small for him. So I bought him a new pair, complete with cute little socks.

Tian How joined us for dinner, shopped a little more before we headed home at past 9pm!

We were exhausted! I went to bed with Bob’s theme song still ringing in my ears. And my dear sis confirmed that she will delay motherhood for another decade!

Mommy: Yihang see, 救火车

Yihang: Huh!?

Mommy: Fire Engine!

Yihang: No! means ‘save’, 火车means ‘train’. So 救火车 means SAVE THE TRAIN!

Yihang : Por Por what you want to eat for dinner tonight?

Por Por : 吃素

Yihang : HUH!? You want to eat a TREE!!??

The whole family, including the maid has embarked on the [compulsory], speak Mandarin campaign since!

My hubby commented that I have very few friends.

Indeed.

Colleagues, classmates, course mates, JC-mates, Uni-mates, acquaintances, hubby’s friend ….

That’s how I refer to people whom I knew.

‘Friend’ is a term reserved for the special few.

And Linda is one of them.

(Linda and I have never taken a photo together! Must make it a point to snap one the next time we meet up)

I first met Linda when we were posted the same primary school for a short one week work experience. We were in different sessions thus did not have the opportunity to get to know each other. However, we were again posted to the same school for an 8-week practicum (teaching practice).

I remembered the day vividly. Before starting our teaching term, we visited the school and took a bus back to NIE together. Somehow we were pretty comfortable with each other. We talked about our boyfriends and she told me that she had just met this guy from the Air Force … tall and handsome … but she wasn’t too sure …

I did very well for my practicum which later earned me a distinction and a prestigious award. Comments were passed. Collogues were comparing our performances. It was testing. But Linda never showed a tinge of jealousy, never belittle my achievements. She continued to help and encourage me. She shared my happiness and celebrated my sucess. And that sealed the friendship.

Though we were posted to teach in different schools after that, we kept in close contact. We met up regularly and I shared some of her most important moments in life. I attended her wedding (she married her prince charming!) and celebrated her son’s full month.

And now, the two of us are brimming with excitement because we are going to be neighbours soon, to share yet another chapter in our lives.

Happy Feet November 16, 2005

My 好姐妹, Jenny, gave me a treat to an hour of gloriously relaxing foot rub at Tranquility cove. The ambience was great. The soft lighting coupled with the music provided the perfect catalyst to get us into the mood for a good massage. As we plonked comfortably into the leather arm chairs and sipped our hot tea, we had our feet kneaded, stroked, poked, pulled, pinched, rubbed and rolled. That was the most pleasurable and sensual way to torture relieve exhausted and fatigued feet and make them happy again.

Yihang has been selected to be in the band for the school’s year end Christmas pageant.

“I am playing the clappers,” announced the toddler unenthusiastically. “I wanted to play the bell.”

So mommy encouraged him to voice his preference, contrary to Por Por’s (婆婆) believe that children should learn to accept gracefully what have been assigned to them.

The next day.

“Worse! Now I am playing the tambourine. Shake, Shake, Shake – so tiring. And have to hit, hit, hit on my hand – so painful. Bell so good. Only ring a few times. So easy!”

The following day.

“I asked teacher if I can play the bell. She says can. Then she leaves the room. And I still play the tambourine”

Yet another day.

“I asked teacher again. She says that I cannot play the bell.”

The Final Day

“I cannot play the bell. Confirm.”

“You asked again,” enquired mommy, a little embarrassed.

“No! I just took the bell. But teacher asked me to put it back. And when I wanted to take the tambourine – inside the box, no more! So have to stand there and do nothing during practice. So BORING!”

“My dear, you have to learn how to accept what is assigned to you gracefully. (Sounds familiar?!). Forget about the bell. Tambourine is good!” explain mommy affectionately and encouragingly.

“Huh!? But I thought YOU said bell is good and I can ask teacher!!!??”

Our baby is growing so fast. I find myself rushing home everyday after work to see him …

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

  • rushes out of the house when the door opens and takes his little sandals, all ready for an outing
  • stretching out his hands calling “MaMaMaMa”, asking to be carried
  • stomps around the house like a little fat penguin
  • fights with his brother
  • plays
  • grins
  • snuggle up close to me wanting to nurse
  • turn the pages of his board books and pretend to read
  • gobbles up his food
  • carefully examine every spoon of milk contains a piece of GerBer Puff.
  • yawns and rubs his eyes
  • toss and turn in bed, with a full stomach before finally falling a sleep

It’s been a long time since my whole family went out for dinner.

Everyone’s busy.

My parents are so busy with their studies, volunteer work, editing and publishing jobs, etc. They seemed so much busier after their retirement. Trust me, worse than teenagers let loose!

My sis is busy with her boyfriend who is always busy with her.

And Tian How and I are busy with the kids who are busy keeping all of us busy.

What a change to have the whole family, sit back, relax and enjoy our meal at Coffee Club, Takashimaya while the busy waiter and waitresses wait on us.
