Goodbye 2006
Our schedule was packed from back to back. There were parties, gatherings, play dates, BBQs, dinners, luncheons, shopping, errands before the final count down.
On the 19th Dec, Singapore was hit by the third highest rainfall recorded in 75 years! It rained and rained and rained and rained. And we were kept indoors, cuddling under our warm quilt, chatting about anything under the sun while admiring the dark storm clouds, listening to the thunder claps, the howling wind and the heavy rain drops beating against our window panes.
Did ceramics with my sis. I laughed at her failed attempt to create a vase which ended up as a hideous fish cookie jar. My master piece, titled ‘Labour’ because it resembled a woman in agony. But my hubby says that it looks like a contorted penis!
Had steamboat dinner with my family – felt like Chinese New Year already!
Then it was Christmas eve dinner. My parents, my in-laws, my sis and her hubby and her hubby’s brother’s family were all at our home. What a spread – popiah, pasta, char siew, roast pork, glass jelly, cake, sparkling juice – everything but the traditional turkey, ham and wine! yiHang made these beautiful place cards for all the guests. Clumsy YiXiang who gets easily excited broke one of the angel candle holders before the guests arrived.
When we were young, my sis and I always look forward to making tang yuan and waking up to a bowl of colourful piping hot tang yuan in sweet ginger syrup on Dong Zhi (Winter Solstice). Buying them off the shelves has taken away much fun and warmth in these recent years. So mom decided to ask all of us back for tang yuan making. Papa and the buns’ first attempt. Look at the amatuers at work!
The boys stayed awake for the 2007 countdown at home. We played Monopoly to pass time. Perched at the window, while sipping sparking grape juice and admiring the fireworks. We got a great view – saw fireworks from Esplanade and Vivo City. We also saw the red flares fired up by the ships. It was magnificient! The whole city came alive!
With that we bid 2006 goodbye.
And welcome 2007.
