One after another December 1, 2007

It has been most tiring with one falling sick after another.

Two days after Xiang recovered, our baby, Xuan caught the bug. Fever soared to almost 40 degrees and the whole cycle of monitoring, sponging, feeding medicine, keeping vigil through the nights repeated. Usually, we would set the alarm and wake up in the nights to check the temperature, but there was one night we were too tired and only woke up when  Xuan suddenly cried very loudly. Oh my gosh! He was as hot as a piece of coal ! Suppository never fails to bring the fever down but it must be really painful because every time I insert it for our baby, he struggles and cries.

Last Saturday was Hang’s Christmas concert. For the past four years, I never miss his performances. We were looking forward to see his role as the inn keeper in the nativity. I was all dressed up but the very last minute, with a heavy heart, I announced to hubby, “Go ahead without me. Xuan is sick and he needs me more. Tell Hang I am sorry.”

Just when we thought the battle was finally over when Xuan recovered, Hang caught the bug. I ran out of leave and had to steal time home to see them during lunch hours.

We are exhausted. But soon this will blow over.
Soon.

Hey
Hope they all better. Dd caught the superbug. Was a really “painful” time for me. She had fever for 6 days and there were 2 nites when her fever soar up to 40 deg. w/in an hr. Was really scary. I usually check on the kids every 2 hrs round the clock, but for the bug, I had to wake up every hr. Was crazy. One nite, we brought her to KK. They were super efficient. Gave her head to toe cool shower, fever medicine and blood test. All w/in half hr. The dr also taught us that if an hr after taking paracetomal and the fever remains high, give ibuprofen. Works like a charm. Have a chat w/ ur dr abt this.

Take care.

Hi Yvonne,

Thanks for writing. The boys are all cleared – thank God! It was trying – and I had to go through this crazy phase 3 times! It’s definitely the bug – all the same symptoms with fever lasting almost a week and soaring up to 40 degrees. We gave ibuprofen every 6-8 hours. But if fever hits more than 39 we use the suppository. Sponge and sponge while waiting for the medication to take effect. I try not to go to KK cause they a bit ‘kiasi’ – and I dont want to end up hospitalising the boys. I have a good pead and if there is anything really urgent, we call her line :) Hope your princess is feeling better too. {{{HUGGSSS}}}
